Afzal Abdul Rahim was appointed as CEO of TIME dotCom Berhad (TIME) in October 2008 with a major task to revive the company. He took on the challenge and together with a team of seasoned industry professionals, returned the company to profitability within a year. TIME is now on track for its fifth straight year of profits. Afzal holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sussex, UK, specialising in Electronics and Acoustic Wave Theory. He began his career in the automotive sector, and his last position before expanding into Information Technology (IT) was in a regional role with the British sports and racing car maker, Group Lotus Plc. He took a leap of faith and plunged into the communications industry in the aftermath of the dot-com bust, and together with a core management team steered The AIMS Asia Group to its position as the region’s leading network neutral data centre operator. The team then established the international bandwidth firm Global Transit in 2005, which today counts stakes in The Unity Trans-Pacific cable system and the Asia Pacific Gateway (APG) among its core investments. Today, both AIMS and Global Transit are part of TIME, helping diversify its revenue base while offering clients a valuable mix of ASEAN and international telecommunications expertise and solutions.
