At Startup Grind on August 25th we will hear from “The Seated Nurse,” Andrea Dalzell, and her incredible story about “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Access"!
Named New Mobility’s Person of the Year and winner of the inaugural Craig H. Neilsen Vision Prize, Andrea Dalzell is a healthcare advocate, disability rights activist and most importantly, a survivor.
Diagnosed with transverse myelitis at age five, Dalzell was using a wheelchair by the time she was twelve years old. Inspired by her experiences with nurses, she received her nursing degree and became the first registered nurse in a wheelchair in the state of New York. She now devotes her career to helping others with disabilities live healthier lives, whether seated or able-bodied.
Inspiring, courageous and with a determination unlike any other, Dalzell’s story proves that people with disabilities can live a fulfilling life and will have you seeing accessibility in a whole new way.
