Nancy Sumari is a social entrepreneur with grandiose ambition to make positive changes in Tanzania, which is quite awesome given that she had never considered entrepreneurship as an option. Her dream was to go to college, get a degree and get a good old 8 to 5 job; you know the common Tanzanian child’s dream. But the universe had other plans in the works for her and she ended up in the Miss Tanzania pageant and moved on to compete in the Miss World competition where she won the Miss World Africa title. Nancy’s win set in motion a series of events involving various entrepreneurial projects, which propelled her into the entrepreneurship world and went on to engage in some and co-found various ventures within the entrepreneurship circle in a bid to empower the youth, women and eventually children too! In 2011, Nancy became the Managing Director of the Bongo 5 (T) Media group where she took on the task of restructuring the organization’s strategic direction, team and content. Through Bongo 5, Nancy successfully spearheaded the launch and scale of the Tuzo za Watu awards, (People’s Choice Award) that gives the Tanzanian public a chance to nominate and vote for their favourite Tanzanian musicians, actors and actresses, and entertainers, a one of its kind show in the country. Four years later, Nancy founded the Neghesti-Sumari Foundation a non-profit organisation that continues her work to improve the state of Tanzanian Communities through entrepreneurship skills training, technology, women and youth empowerment. Nancy is also an author of a children’s book, ‘Nyota Yako’ and a mommy blogger.
