The Founders Lunch is a special concept Startup Grind Beijing offers to founders in the local Startup ecosystem. One of the most important learnings any founder can have is learning from the expertise, success, and failures of fellow entrepreneurs. We ensure that the group is small and only founders and Co-founders of registered startups and some of their team members are allowed to participate.
At each Founders Lunch, we invite one founder to host the session and talk about a topic that is relevant for other founders.
One of the biggest challenges a founder faces is the multiple roles he/she has to take on from day one, and the increasing complexity of each role. Some of these roles will naturally move to other people as the organization grows, but we will cling to others because we think we should own those roles. General management, finance, company strategy, sales, etc…
Six years into my journey as an accidental entrepreneur, it became increasingly clear that I was the main force both for and against the development of Influence Matters as the agency pushes beyond 20 people. I'm still managing things I am not very good at, taking valuable time from good things. The team, and my partner (in business and life), expects me to get better at these roles I underperform in while continuing to deliver on those I excel at. But should I?
It's a work in progress (an eternal one I suppose), but I'll discuss the recent introspection, research, work on myself, and on managing the expectations of people around me so they can support the organization better.
