Hi and welcome to our latest Startup Grind Scotland newsletter, updating you on the latest from our Scottish chapters in Edinburgh and Glasgow! It's been a busy few months here at Startup Grind Scotland HQ. Since launching our Glasgow Chapter in September, with John McGlynn of Airlink as guest at our inaugural Glasgow event, we've been delighted to see our attendee community continue to grow from strength to strength. We've brought on board a new Assistant Chapter Director for Glasgow, Hannah Dockery who has been an invaluable support in planning our events and launching the chapter. We've also been delighted to welcome new volunteer Startup Grind Ambassadors Josh Quigley, Sadiah Mir, Ian Le Bruce and Lisa Macareiu assisting with event administration, social media promotion and the smooth organising and running of our events. We are looking for more volunteers to help with social media marketing, event promotion and photography and filiming amongst others, so if you'd like to support us, raise your profile in the startup and business community and gain some experience please get in touch! |
We've also welcomed on board new corporate sponsors Harper MacLeod LLP, to join MBM Commercial and MBN Solutions Ltd, supporting our entrepreneurial community and helping us continue to provide free early bird and Startup tickets - and ongoing thanks also to our venue sponsors CodeBase and The Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship!
Last month in Edinburgh we hosted Shaf Rasul of SRA Ventures, and piloted a new enhancement to our events, a 1-minute pitch competition to win a mentoring session with our speaker! Congratulations to the winners Patrick Hickey and Rachel Connolly!
Our Chapter Directors Lisa and Phin have been busy too! Phin was invited to attend the launch of Geniac, a business management startup that recently announced plans for 385 new jobs in Glasgow over the next 3 years. At the event he met the First Minister Alex Salmond, and updated him on Startup Grind's role here in Scotland on bringing together and supporting our growing startup community!
Lisa is still over in Boston with the Saltire Fellowship, and recently attended an event with the Boston Startup Grind Chapter as part of our global Startup Grind community! She'll be back in Scotland briefly in November, attending our event in Glasgow on the 19th with John Anderson, and then out speaking about Startup Grind and our approach to networking at an event organised by MIT's Regional Entrepreneurship Acceleration Programme, looking at how regions can accelerate job creation and economic development through innovation-driven entrepreneurship.
We'll be taking a break from our usual monthly events in December, but have some really exciting further events lined up in 2015, including Jackie Waring from Investing Women, Scotland's first female angel investor group, Jim McColl OBE of Clyde Blowers Capital and Calum Smeaton of Orbital, Sumerian and now TVSquared - for full details of our long-list all our upcoming events please see our Chapter pages here: Edinburgh and Glasgow.
