Buffalo has a storied history of being leaders of industry and entrepreneurship. From the birthplace of modern electricity, to the creation of the steam powered grain elevator, to the development of massive steel plants, Buffalo’s startups and innovations have literally revolutionized not only entire industries, but the world.
Sure Buffalo has experienced its fair share of difficulties since its heyday, but 2014 isn’t your grandparents’ Buffalo. Heck, it’s not even your parents’ Buffalo anymore. In the past five years we have experienced unprecedented growth, public and private investment, and a renaissance that celebrates and preserves the unique and historic assets of Buffalo.
But as we all know, the key to sustaining the recent progress is creating our own growth—organic growth—which comes down to creating a thriving community of entrepreneurs. And that’s just what we are doing.
Buffalo has started to see the emergence of a vibrant startup community. The support for this community is broadening each day and includes incubators such as Z80 labs, coworking spaces at dig and CoworkBuffalo, access to capital through funds like the Buffalo Angel Fund and Rand Capital, tax free zones for startups, venture development organizations such as Launch NY, and most recently the world’s largest business idea competition offering a total of $5MM in prizes: 43North.
Anyone thinking Buffalo isn’t on the rise needs to wake up and smell the Frank’s hot sauce.
Now is the time to launch Startup Grind Buffalo. Our startup community is taking off and it is the perfect time to capitalize on this momentum. Startup Grind Buffalo will engage, energize and further cultivate a collaborative community of entrepreneurs by offering the real life stories and experiences of the people behind Buffalo’s renaissance: the entrepreneurs and leaders once again writing the pages of history.
Entrepreneurs from all walks of life are invited to attend the inaugural Startup Grind Buffalo event on May 29th at the new dig coworking space.
