Bringing Silicon Valley To San Diego This Wednesday!

The San Diego Startup Grind community is doing a fine job fitting our stereotype as we prepare for the kickoff event which will take place on Wednesday, June 20th, the first day of summer.

Greg Horowitt is a local celebrity in the San Diego startup scene who founded Global CONNECT at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). Global CONNECT is an innovation-based, economic development consultancy that focuses on growing technology clusters both at home and abroad. Horowitt is also recognized for his work on The Rainforest: The Secret To Building The Next Silicon Valley.

During the fireside chat, we'll explore the rainforest theory, the concept of “innovation ecosystems,” and the secrets of Silicon Valley, with hopes of recreating its abundance here in San Diego; that is, an abundance of talent, ideas, collaboration, innovation, and success.

In addition, the question and answer session following the fireside chat is sure to produce a wealth of knowledge for both entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs, since Horowitt can answer from the perspective of an entrepreneur, a founder, a consultant, a venture capitalist, and a policy advisor.

Come early as seating will be on a first-come-first-served basis. Attendees can park at 101 West Broadway, but be advised, they can only validate 2 hours worth, while Horton Plaza across the street offers 3-hour parking validation inside the mall.

The EvoNexus incubator, located downtown at 101 West Broadway, has volunteered to host the event in their 2nd floor suite. (EvoNexus is currently home to 19 different tech startups, the perfect venue to match the theme of the event).

From 6pm to 7pm there will be networking and pizza, followed by a fireside chat with featured guest, Greg Horowitt - serial entrepreneur, venture capitalist, author, and global policy advisor – from 7 to 8pm. The event will conclude with a question-and-answer session and more networking from 8 to 9pm.
