Startup Grind Utah Hosts Paul Ahlstrom (Nail It Then Scale It)

Nail It Then Scale It is the handbook entrepreneurs need to repeatedly take their world changing ideas and create a successful company out of them.  Written by Nathan Furr, a PhD from Stanford, and Paul Ahlstrom, a successful entrepreneur and venture capitalist, its obvious the book tells the truth.  Join us on December 4to hear from Paul Ahlstrom. Reserve your tickets here.

As an entrepreneur Paul founded several companies including Knowlix in 1997 which raised capital in 1998 and was sold to Peregrine Systems in 1999.  Peregrine Systems was later sold to Hewlett Packard.

As a venture capitalist Paul has started 4 different funds.  Two of these funds are in Utah: vSpring Capital (2000) and Kickstart Seed Fund (2007).  The other two funds are in Mexico: Alta Growth Capital (2007) and Alta Venture Mexico (2011).  Through these funds Paul has invested in more than 90 startup companies including Ancestry.com (public), Globalsim (sold to Kongsberg Maritime), Senforce (sold to Novell), Altiris (went public then sold to Symantec), Rhomobile, Public Engines, Aeroprise, 7 degrees, The American Academy, and FamilyLink.

Paul has also been actively involved in education.  He was a founding advisory board member to Brigham Young University’s Rollins eBusiness Center and is a founder of BYU’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology.  University of Utah’s Technology Commercialization Office counts Paul as a member of the executive committee and board.  The Technology Commercialization Office is ranked first nationwide for university-generated spinouts.

The December 4 event will be held at Adobe’s new campus in Lehi, Utah.  The 280,000 square foot building just celebrated its grand opening this week.  Since Oct. 2011 I have been watching from the freeway as construction progressed hoping to have a chance to get inside and December 4 I will. The building boasts floor to ceiling windows, gym, café, full-sized basketball court, gaming room, massage room and full locker room facilities.  The amazing new Adobe building coupled with the knowledge Paul is ready to share with us will create an amazing event.
